Cabo del Este - Baja California's "East Cape" - is nothing like the other three. The hot climate is about as far from Alaska and Siberia as it's possible to get. Because the two share roughly the same latitude, Cabo del Este bears a superficial resemblance to its New Zealand counterpart. However, once you're there, you'll know that you've arrived in a very unique part of the world.

The first hotel in Cabo del Este opened in 1953. The Rancho Buena Vista had a mere twelve rooms and was served by a small airstrip. Today, the suburban areas of Los Barriles and Buena Vista offer many amenities undreamed of as recently as the 1970s, including supermarkets, restaurants, fueling stations and other tourist services.

Sport fishermen can try their luck going after the sought-after marlin, although tuna, dorado and roosterfish are also plentiful. The best sport fishing is to be had between May and October. Meanwhile, those who are not into sport fishing can enjoy numerous water activities along the East Cape's sheltered and pristine beaches. Swimming, scuba diving, wind-surfing and sailing are just some of the water sports available in the East Cape area.
