Sport Fishing Charters La Paz

La Paz (Baja California, not Bolivia) is not only “The City of Peace” but is also the fourth largest city in Mexico – and home to some of the best sport fishing and water recreation on the Baja Peninsula.

Humans have inhabited the area since the Stone Age; the rock paintings left by these early hunter-gatherers can still be seen throughout the nearby desert. The sheltered bay makes an ideal port; nonetheless, early attempts to establish a colony in the 1500s were failures because of the remote location and other logistical difficulties.

In recent times, La Paz was been the setting of at least three novels, two of which were by American literary icon John Steinbeck.

Despite its greater size, La Paz and the Sea of Cortez is often overshadowed by its neighbor Cabo San Lucas when it comes to sport fishing. Nonetheless, experienced sport fishermen know that the waters around La Paz contain some of the biggest hard-fighting deep-sea fish around. Sport fishermen will also have opportunities for other water recreation and activities. These include kayaking, scuba diving and snorkeling – or simply relaxation on one of the many pristing beaches in the area.

Although La Paz is a large city (the current population is around 210,000), the night life is more subdued than it is in many coastal communities; “rowdy and unruly crowds” (i.e., drunken college kids on spring break) tend to pass up La Paz (and the locals don’t mind a bit!) Nonetheless, tourists will find a wide variety of dance clubs, restaurants and sports bars to visit – including The Isolde Tower, the only authentic Irish Pub in Baja California!
