Sport Fishing Charters San Jose Del Cabo (Los Cabos)
The mission of San Jose del Cabo (”Saint Joseph of the Cape”) was founded on the southernmost tip of the Baja peninsula in 1731 by Nicolas Tamaral, a Jesuit missionary who had hoped to convert the local Indian tribes to Christianity, thereby making them more obedient to Spanish authority. While he may have been only partially successful in this endeavor, the nearby Rio San Jose provided fresh water - thus ensuring that a community would take root and thrive. Over the ensuing decades, San Jose del Cabo became a stopping place for the galleons sailing between New Spain and the Philippines where the crews could take on fresh water for the voyage.
San Jose del Cabo is one of the communities that make up Los Cabos San Lucas, one of the premier “big game” fishing spots in the world. Since the 1950s, sport fishermen have been coming to San Jose del Cabo and neighboring communities for the abundant marlin and sailfish, as well as a hundred other species that thrive in the local waters. In fact, marlin are so plentiful that it is not unusual for novices to land one on their first sport fishing excursion.
